Hi, my name is Adam Brocklebank, I’m a 21 year old Undergrad student at Durham University. I am studying Sports, Exercise and Physical Activity and play Rugby Union for the 1XV. Having played Rugby Union for a short period of my life (5 years), the opportunity to continue to play at Durham University, while completing my Undergrad was an opportunity I could not let pass.
My interest of Durham began back in January 2014 when the Team Durham rugby coach, Alex Keay, reached out and got in touch with me to ask where my interests were to study and play rugby. At that time, I was still in school and didn’t have much of an idea as to what I wanted to do. Alex then continued to stay in touch with me and he sold the Durham university life very well. Consequently, the journey began in September 2014, when the Rugby pre-season began, I was given the VC Scholarship and I was finally at Durham.
With no lectures and just preseason, I was able to explore the city and meet a lot of new people. Just like Alex Keay said though all the application phase “it’s one of the most pretty cities that you will ever go to” and he was right, Durham was absolutely amazing. The cobblestone roads, stone buildings and the narrow paths that you realize weren’t built for cars but rather horse and carriage, are quite overwhelming. Of course, the guys on my Rugby Team are great; I spent the majority of everyday with them and became close to them quickly, but Durham is so well-connected you get to meet everyone. (That is one of the qualities of Durham I like the most)
Fast forward 2 years and I’m in my final year of University! who would have thought! My time here has flown by and I have loved every minute of it. I have met so many people who I will be friends with for a very long time and so many opportunities have arisen for me here. I have developed massively as a person and as a rugby player, because of Durham one of the doors opened for me is professional rugby. I hope to continue to develop as a person during my final year here and afterwards have a range of choices to go, one of which I would hope is Rugby.
